"Bleeding Heart"
Media: mixed media (ink, watercolor, pencil)

This print is depicts a heart bleeding out with puzzle pieces as a background. It was done as a collaboration with a creative writing class. I based mine off the poem written by Hannah Monte. It revolved around the idea of two souls intwining as one and one becoming too trapped and not being able to escape the grip of another. It uses metaphors like a heart being trapped by barbed wire, which is exactly what I depicted. I included to puzzle pieces to show how the beginning of the poem started off where everything seemed to be falling into place. The colors I used as the background of the print were chosen based on the mood given by the poem. I chose bland and grayish shades of purple and pink to show colors the relate to the heart and blood system and also the deeper meaning behind the poem. The colors can also represent sadness in a pure form. March 2017
"Sunsets in Arizona"
Media: mixed media (marker, ink, color pencil, pen)

This is my first piece of the year and my objective was to creatively incorporate my name within an artwork. It was meant specifically to show ownership of the sketchbook itself. It depicts a desert landscape. I used mainly color pencil and spent time with blending. Then I used pen and ink. A pen was used for my signature down the middle and a marker (ink) was used for the cactus shown. I drew designs inside the cactus to make the colors in the sunset scene stand out from behind it. "Journey"
Media: mixed media (pen, fooder, marker)

This was an assignment done during class in which I put my own twist. It was primarily an assignment in which there were objects set out on each table for us to draw with contour line and I drew the objects at first in pencil then traced it over with pen. Then I added the paper with flower patterns as my own twist and cut them geometrically. I also colored in the nails to match the pattern on the paper I glued in. The fooder used was found in a scratch paper bin. December 2016
"Centipede"
Media: mixed media (color pencil, pen, watercolor with salt)

This artwork was created in my sketchbook and shows a still life of a centipede. The objective was to incorporate pen and ink techniques. I did the theme of insects and drew a centipede with leaves around it. And the soil which was shown through watercolor techniques. I put brown watercolor then put salt on it for the effect of small textured dots. I did the pen technique of stippling near the centipede's heads and down their legs. I did multiple techniques on the leaves such as cross-hatching, waves, and scribbles. I did color pencil on the rest of the centipede and made sure to include where the light hits. February 2017

"Cola espátula diablo"
Media: mixed media (wires, plastic bags, foil, acrylic paint)

My hybrid animal I turned into a sculpture is a mix between the black seadevil and the marvelous spatuletail. This sculpture was done with the base of wires, plastic bags, foil then done with paper mache over that. It was then painted with acrylic paints. I call it the "Cola espátula diablo." It lives near the west coasts of Peru. When I created the hybrid, I kept the same color scheme that both of them inhibit. The name, "Cola espátula diablo" which is a mix of he names in Spanish due to its habitat. It lives in mid-water and has gills and permanently resides in water but also has lungs to temporarily jump out of water with its wings for mating season. May 2017
